B-Lines Strathmore People & Pollinators

From April 2022-24, Buglife ran a B-lines project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Gannochy Trust, spanning the Strathmore Valley from Montrose to Dunkeld increasing the area and quality of pollinator-friendly wildflower-rich habitat by 24.8ha. The project worked with organisations and communities to create wildflower areas through a series of workshops and events, helping people to engage with nature. The improved habitat formed stepping stones and corridors that link fragmented pollinator habitats, helping species move across the landscape.

The project approach can be replicated at a range of scales and supports landscape scale nature network development as well as neighbourhood action that can be delivered by communities. As well as supporting nature, communities can consider approaches that support water infiltration in wetland grasslands and raingardens as an example that support other adaptation measures.
